When the world screams worthless

“They EXCHANGED the TRUTH about God for a LIE…” – Romans 1:25

I think the root and the core of almost EVERY sin is captured in this verse.
Anytime we run to sin it’s usually because we are believing a lie.
I know this first hand.
I have fallen into believing many lies that are not from the heart of God at all.
Isn’t that just like the traitor? To be the same viperous slime filled snake today that he was 2,000 years ago and try to trick us into believing things that will help us, when in reality those are the exact things actually out to hurt us…?
He’s the worst.
But it’s ok because God’s the best.
I used to believe I was worthless.
Because that’s how a few people in my life had
treated me and talked down to me repeatedly in my high school years.
What are you supposed to think when you have someone constantly telling you things like: You’ll never amount to anything..
You will never make anyone happy..
And things much worse not even worth mentioning or giving glory too.
I’ll tell you what happens…
You start to have an inner voice that whispers : worthless

You start believing a lie vs. the truth…
And what happens when you believe something is you begin to resonate with it
the more you hear it… Leading to resignation, meaning you begin to fully submit to the thought and no longer just identify with it.
You know why I believed it…?
( That inner voice whispering lies of worthlessness was whispering louder than the Holy Spirit living within me, the reason being that I was submersed in a culture where the lies scream louder than the truth)

Where did I find the truth?

In God’s love. Which is also God’s word. Which is also the Truth.

Because God is Love. ( 1John 4:8)
God is the word. ( John 1:1)
And the word is the source of truth.( John 14:6)  Look it up.

The more I got in the word, the stronger the inner voice of truth with-in me resonated with my spirit…

Honestly I didn’t really know his word well, at all. Aka I didn’t really read my Bible much. Then  I began to get around a community
A church and a group of people who REALLY loved God.
They did not just CLAIM to love God… and act completely different, no their actions really PROVED their genuine love for God.
Everything changed!!
What if we were so full of truth that there was no more room for the lies?
That’s the way I try to live now… It’s the only way I wanna live..
filled up on the word…filled on THE TRUTH!
What if for every lie the enemy threw at us, we fired back the truth ?!

“They EXCHANGED the TRUTH about God for a LIE, and WORSHIPED and SERVED CREATED THINGS rather than the CREATOR–who is forever praised. Amen.” – Romans 1:25
See I used to serve created things, but that’s because my life was so far from the truth, but as I began to seek God with all my heart all my mind and all my soul,
he lavished me with knowledge wisdom and the TRUTH about who he is!

“You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.” – Genesis‬ ‭50:20‬ ‭NIV‬‬

^^^ this is one of my life verses. The enemy wanted to use the things in my life and past to harm me but God has turned that darkness to light and is now bringing people back to his kingdom through the testimony of my life. By his grace!!

He’s a loving father.
He’s a personable God.
And he calls me WORTHY.

When the world screamed WORTHLESS, God screamed WORTHY!

He’s gunna wash away the shame all the lies will fade away, when you call upon the name of the one who saves. – Island Vista Worship

Call on his name.
Give up the created things in exchange for the creator.
Ask him how he can use the harm the enemy intended for you, and turn it into his goodness? Because he is so good! And you are worthy of the FULLNESS of his love.. He has a purpose and plan for you.

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”- ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2:10‬

The Truth: “Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered!” – ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭139:14-17‬ ‭NLT‬‬

5  Years ago God used my “Little”

“Since your love got a hold of me I’m a new creation I’m forever changed 🎧”

Lately all I can sing is this song!
Because it holds so much truth in my life.
5 years ago around this time I rededicated my life to Christ.
It wasn’t a half-hearted effort, I was ALL-IN.
Yes obviously I fell short here and there and I surely still do.
Although I can promise you this… I am not the same person I was 5 years ago.

Never in a million years would I have thought I would be the one to go to India or to 5 other countries before the time I was 21 … Let alone to share the love of Jesus Christ with people, never woulda thought I would be leading a bible study, a prayer meeting, or standing in front of a crowd talking about God. I say these things not because I think they are great, I think what God did was great. I say them because God can do SO MUCH with so little, I was the so little in the case. I’ve been met by love. I’m talking about true love (1John 4:8). Radically encountered by the depths of grace and constantly bubbling over joy. Yeah bad days come it’s bound to happen, but I always have something to smile about and be thankful for in God and so do you.

If you give him ALL of your “little” he can turn it into something BIG beautiful and beyond all words.

Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: “Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.”
‭‭-1 Corinthians‬ ‭1:26-31‬ ‭NIV‬‬

If you’re willing to go ALL IN for him..
The question is: What can he do with your little?…
because I promise you it’s A LOT more than you could think of, ask for, or imagine.

Had to brag / boast on God today!

A love story that’s not a fairytale

Imagine this… a guy walks up to your father and says “I will work for you for 7 years if you’ll let me marry your daughter once the end of the 7 years is over.”

Doesn’t this sound like some kind of fairy tale?
Maybe even a punch line to T-Swift’s next big hit… All I know is it doesn’t seem like reality.

Well guess what… it is reality. It’s a true tale of a love encounter that took place thousands of years ago.

The Love story of Jacob & Rachel

Jacob was running away from his brother Esau and went to go stay with a relative and met Rachel. Upon arriving at his final destination Paddam Aram  the first woman he runs into is Rachel. [Genesis 29:1-28]

At just the right TIME God lead Jacob to Rachel.

We can often get caught up in :
the when
the where
the how
and most importantly the who…?
See God knows all the answers. He knows the when, where, how and the who.

When we  begin to  actively seek Him and make the choice to follow Him daily we will end up in the right place at the right time like Jacob!

Timing is everything.

Jacob had many conversations with God before he arrived where Rachel was. (Aka Jacob was in tune with God).

Jacob was in love with Rachel and said, “I’ll work for you seven years in return for your younger daughter Rachel.” (Genesis 29:18)

He saw VALUE in Rachel.
We are valuable as Women.
Our Love carries value and we need a man who can see that value.

Jacob was aware of the value of Rachel so much that he was willing to work for her.

Jacob wasn’t like…

“Let me take this girl to dinner once maybe twice…” he was actively in pursuit of her!

Willing to WORK for her.. not put in minimal effort and hope she stays around and hope he can win her back every now and then if it get’s to that point.

So Jacob served 7 YEARS to get Rachel, but they seemed like only a few days to him because of his love for her. (Genesis 29:20)

What a beautiful love that is portrayed in the statement above. A genuine love… it wasn’t based off of physical acts or solely looks. It was much more than that.

**But it did say Rachel was very beautiful so we know he was very attracted to her!** (Great News its ok to be attracted to your spouse, in my opinion you should be.) Genesis 29:17 “Leah had weak eyes, but Rachel had a lovely figure and was beautiful” (Yikes sorry Leah :/ haha)

If you read on in Genesis there are some crazy and unfortunate events that take place in the family where Jacob finally gets to marry Rachel but then he had to work even another 7 years to keep her 7+7 = 14 fourteen years he worked for this girl and to keep her… Jacob didn’t quit just because he got the girl.

Don’t settle for a man who quits when he gets to date you!!! Because if his pursuit stops when your dating it surely will stop when your married.

What makes a LOVE STORY so powerful?
Christ as the center.
We see the Gospel all over this story because Jacob pursued Rachel and made a sacrifice for her just like when Christ died on the cross as an expression of his un-comprehendible love for us.

Morale of the story a real man of God will wait for you and truly love you! Jacob was able to be patient and love her so deeply because he loved God so deeply. He was also someone worth waiting for. What girl isn’t excited about a man that’s waiting and working 7 years just to be with her.

A Jacob and Rachel type of Love is worth waiting for IT IS OBTAINABLE

It DOES exist.

God want’s to bless our relationships just as much as theirs if not more than Jacob and Rachel.

If God did it for them he can do it for me and you.and it’s definitely the type of love relationship to pray for.

“Fight the Good Fight” – 1 Timothy 1:18

It’s the first week of April.
My senior project is due in less than 4 weeks. My birthday is in less than three weeks. My best friend is getting married in two weeks and I’m graduating in exactly one month.
To say the absolute least… I’ve been extremely busy.

And to be honest I haven’t sat down and read my bible in a long time…
Now don’t get me wrong! I’ve skimmed through a devo here and there,
glanced at the verse of the day, and checked out some great motivational instagrams in the past two weeks.

But what I am discursively trying to say is that I haven’t taken time to sit down and really focus in on God.

Being completely present in his presence.

This past week I rerouted from my former decision making.
To start off I was I was highly frustrated because I woke up late. I wasn’t able to partake in my everyday comfortable morning routine. A
fresh strawberry, banana, and pineapple smoothie in the nutri-bullet (fruits may vary) with vanilla flavored coconut milk and Yoplait greek yogurt was calling my name!! … But so was God. I had to pick and chose how I was going to spend this particular morning and where I would spend my oh so valuable time.

On this morning I chose to put God first  even if it meant missing out on a spectacular smoothie before class, listening to the latest jams on my new favorite Spotify gym playlist “Hard In The Paint” (which you should obviously check out), going on morning jog, or spending a pointless 30 minutes scrolling through social media. Missing out on that was ok today.

Because I miss spending time with my friend.

Lately my mind and my emotions have been in a different place. They’ve been focused on the things of today vs. the one who’s given me today and he’s most important!

Instead of meeting face to face, instead of having deep meaningful conversations, instead of me listening to what he had to say, instead of letting him into the details of my life, like I would a best friend, I’ve been “busy”.

And I miss him, I miss spending time with my friend.
He was never absent from me… just a feeling of being distant.
He is my best friend. (You know).

It wasn’t like he was gone… but instead like we hadn’t talked in awhile, more like I was  sending him a text everyday saying “Hey What’s up God? Love Ya”

…. In the words of Fetty Wap … “I was like Hey Whatsup Hello…”  Haha, but really.

So this particular busy morning I sat down to read. My head was in the right place… But most importantly my heart was in the right place.

Matthew 22:37 “ Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’”

My head has been present all week, but my heart has been absent.

I sat down on the couch and turned on some serene worship music: “ King of My Heart “ – Bethel Spontaneous (in case you were wondering). I just sat still for a minute, and then I began to sing out to God because I know he’s been SO good to me despite my actions or my mindset.  “ You are good ohhh You are good… You’re never gonna let, you’re never gonna let me down”. And as I began to completely focus on him I felt a sweet presence in the room. It was unexplainable … yet so sweet. So sweet I could almost taste it.

“Taste and see that the Lord is good” – Psalm 34:8

So I opened up my bible and started reading somewhere randomly in Corinthians (I opened to Corinthians lottery style haha) and immediately God brought a verse to my memory. Hebrews 4:12

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”‭‭ – Hebrews‬ ‭4:12‬

And I was thinking God why are you showing me this? And the Holy Spirit was leading me to look up more verses on warfare.

“Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” -Ephesians‬ ‭6:17‬ ‭

“Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” ‭- Ephesians‬ ‭6:11‬ ‭

He was leading me to Ephesians 6 which talks about the Armour of God.

The Helmet of Salvation, Breastplate of Righteousness, Shield of  Faith, Belt of Truth, Sword of the Spirit, Shoes to spread the gospel of Peace.

When you read Ephesians 6:10-18 Paul is listing out the protection God has given his people: the armour of God. He first mentions God’s Armour and immediately after  he talks about the importance and the POWER of Prayer.

In Ephesians 6 the highlight is often focused on the Armour of God but we easily overlook AND underestimate what is following it… “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions” … and pray ALWAYS.

“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”‭‭ -Ephesians‬ ‭6:18‬ ‭

Prayer is an action point for the Armour of God.

We must prepare by constantly putting on the Armour of God...but we go to war when we PRAY.

… but we go to war when we pray

We begin to truly fight when we PRAY.

God has given us divine weapons to help aid us in any BATTLE we may face. Our primary weapons are THE WORD & PRAYER. Our weapons are not of this world.

“The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.” – 2 Corinthians‬ ‭10:4‬ ‭NIV‬‬

The Lord was speaking to me this morning, in the chaos of this week, graduation, and attempting to plan out my future. He spoke to me and said Gabby you’ve been trying to fight your battles with the weapons of this world! Trying to fighting your battles out  of your own strength.

Your worries, your fears, your insecurities.

Picture this: It’s almost like a little kid fighting with a water gun  vs. a dad fighting with a rocket launcher.

Don’t get me wrong, I wasn’t using literal weapons to fight. Things we think can solve are problems… iPhone, money, friends, studying more, doing more, being more, staying active, can’t. None of these are bad things by any means, actually they are all great things, but they can’t solve our problems.

NONE of these weapons can produce the same results as the WEAPONS of the LORD.

I’m gonna leave my battles to the Lord.
He can do abundantly and exceedingly more than we can ever ask for think of or imagine! So whatever you’re going through in this season whether it’s being:
overwhelmed, stressed, anxious, financially burdened, lonely all of this and more…

Take these things before the LORD

“You shall not fear them, for it is the LORD your God who fights for you.” – Deuteronomy 3:22

Begin to really fight these things.
Begin to really go to WAR.
Begin to PRAY.

And watch the outcome…

“For nothing will be impossible with God”. – Luke 1:37
